About J P Watson Photography
Wildlife & Nature Photography from Yorkshire
Welcome to J P Watson Photography, where I share my passion for wildlife, nature, and the countryside of Yorkshire through photography.
I’m Jeremy Watson, a wildlife and nature photographer based in North Yorkshire. My photography is inspired by the wildlife, landscapes, and changing seasons of Yorkshire, from the countryside around Ripon to the Yorkshire coast.
The Journey into Photography
My interest in wildlife began when I was growing up near Ripon in Yorkshire. Birdwatching became a favourite pastime, and I spent many hours exploring the countryside, learning about the birds and wildlife around me.
My early birdwatching days involved binoculars and bird identification books, helping me develop a lasting appreciation of the wildlife and natural environment of Yorkshire.
My working life initially took me in a different direction. I worked in farming before moving into warehousing and transport management, eventually gaining my Transport Manager’s National CPC qualification.
However, my interest in wildlife and the Yorkshire countryside never disappeared.
After buying my first Canon DSLR camera and gradually building a collection of lenses, my passion for birdwatching developed into wildlife photography.
Photographing Wildlife in Yorkshire
Today, Yorkshire wildlife photography is at the heart of J P Watson Photography.
I enjoy photographing birds, mammals, and other wildlife in their natural surroundings, as well as the landscapes and countryside that provide their habitat.
From kingfishers and birds of prey to woodpeckers, owls, and deer, Yorkshire offers an incredible variety of wildlife photography opportunities throughout the year.
Wildlife photography requires patience, observation, and plenty of time outdoors. Some of my favourite photographs come from simply waiting, watching, and allowing the wildlife to behave naturally.
Exploring the Yorkshire Countryside
One of the things I enjoy most about photography is exploring the diverse landscapes of Yorkshire.
From woodland, rivers, and wetlands to moorland, farmland, and the Yorkshire coast, the county provides an ever-changing backdrop for wildlife and nature photography.
Locations including Fountains Abbey, Studley Royal, Staveley Nature Reserve, and Bempton Cliffs all offer their own unique photographic opportunities.
The changing seasons also make Yorkshire an exciting place to photograph. Spring brings new life, summer provides long days in the countryside, autumn transforms the landscape, and winter creates its own special atmosphere.
